The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Loma Linda University is determined to be on the cutting edge of medical education.

Our goal is to train highly skilled and compassionate academic physicians in an environment that emphasizes whole person care. This is achieved through a broad clinical experience caring for a variety of patients at our university, county, and VA hospitals. This training will enable our residents to pursue subspecialty fellowships, practice hospital medicine, and provide modern primary care in an academic or community setting. We are proud to say that we have been accredited since 1965 by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). In 2010, the ACGME awarded us a full 10-year accreditation for 99 residents. In navigating this site, you can learn of the multiple educational opportunities in which our residents participate.

Kindest regards,

Sonny Lee, MD, FAAP, FACP
Program Director

A big factor was the residents. Being a graduate of Loma Linda University School of Medicine, I had the chance to work closely with the IM residents. As a student, I enjoyed working with the residents and knew I would like the environment at this residency.
James Yoon, MD, Categorical Resident
I absolutely love the uplifting and spiritual environment that Loma Linda fosters. Nearly all of the attendings that I have worked with foster an environment of learning in a very positive way. There are so many friendly faces to interact with each day that it makes work, though hard, more enjoyable to do. My colleagues are the best!

Brenden Gallagher, DO, Categorical Resident
Loma Linda Internal Medicine program provides excellent whole person care. The training offers many opportunities to gain clinical experience with enough supervision but sufficient autonomy and responsibility. The Spanish-speaking population also allows me to continue improving my Spanish. Overall it has been an excellent match for me.
David Hamilton, MD, Categorial Resident
The biggest asset at Loma Linda are the relaxed, amiable group of people that call it home. Within the medicine department, attendings and co-residents help create an environment free of unnecessary stressors which helps foster a proper mindset for maximizing learning, stimulates academic discussion, and allows for effective patient care to build clinical confidence. Interacting with other services is pleasant here at Lima Linda as well.
Andrew Hannawi, MD, Pre-lim Resident
Besides exceptional training, I looked at the details that make residency enjoyable such as being in Southern California near my family and friends, affordable rent and no traffic. One benefit I was not aware of prior to coming is LLU’s extremely affordable (<$40/month) and comprehensive health plan. Intern year is tough everywhere, but it’s a lot more manageable when you have chiefs who are understanding and supportive and co-residents who are fun to work with.
